The Forge mechanic alone - fusing five weak guns into one chaotic powerhouse - makes this bullet-heaven worth at least ten runs. Whether you stay for twenty depends on your tolerance for a progression wall that earns its name.

My first hour with Grind Survivors had me genuinely charmed. Four demon hunters, a post-apocalyptic Earth choked with hellspawn, and a loot system that feels borrowed from a much bigger action RPG - enemies drop procedurally generated firearms with randomized stats, rarity tiers, and affixes, and between runs you haul them into the Forge to fuse, reroll, or push your luck on upgrades that could either break the game in your favor or cost you everything you invested. That tension sitting over a reroll button is real, and for a survivors-like to manufacture that kind of hesitation is quietly impressive. The four playable hunters - Cascade, Solara, Vanta, and Riven - each carry a distinct active ability that reshapes how a run feels. Cascade's Bullet Storm converts all piercing shots into bouncing rounds and dramatically extends shooting range. Riven's Berserk triples magazine size and stacks piercing per missing HP, turning near-death into a frenzied upswing. Layered on top are 34 unlockable Runes that act as build modifiers, a permanent passive skill tree, and the choice between autofire and full manual twin-stick control. On a technical level Pushka Studios has done genuinely tidy work: screens packed with neon projectiles, dismembered demons, and elemental color-coded bullets run without a stutter, and the comic-book art direction reads clearly even in peak chaos. The soundtrack leans metal-adjacent - present and driving without ever becoming a headache. Here is where I have to be honest with you, though. The game tells you exactly what it is in the title, and some reviewers have pointed out that the word "Grind" functions more as a warning than a selling point. New biomes - scorched cities, burning forests, corrupted wastelands - are locked behind five consecutive difficulty clears of the previous zone. That means the second map can sit over ten hours away for a new player. The second character unlocks even later. Weapon balance tilts visibly toward certain types (the Teslagun dominates higher difficulties while options like the Sawgun feel underpowered in comparison), and the rune unlock system ties many rewards to highly specific achievement conditions. Runs can also feel hostage to RNG: a bad perk selection in a level-up screen can quietly doom a run without any recovery option. These are real friction points, not minor quibbles. What keeps Grind Survivors in a genuinely recommendable position is that the core loop underneath all that friction is polished and punchy. The autofire toggle means newcomers to the genre can focus on movement and dodging while the game handles targeting, with manual aim override available whenever you need it. The Forge crafting - fusing five same-tier weapons into one of higher rarity, stacking perks, gambling on rerolls - gives each run a persistent meta-layer that feels meaningfully connected to your next attempt. Endless Mode offers an infinitely scaling sandbox for players who want to push a maxed build to absurdity. There is a genuinely good game here, currently wearing a slightly too-tight jacket of gated content and uneven balance. Players who enjoy the repetitive meditation of survivors-likes and have patience for a slow-burn unlock structure will find a satisfying loot loop. Players expecting the variety spigot to open up quickly will bounce off the early hours before the best content surfaces. Kai, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Satisfying loot loop and a clever Forge system, but gated biomes and weapon imbalance make it a better pick for patient survivors-like veterans than genre newcomers.
