I went in expecting a Wild West action game and got something closer to a choose-your-own-adventure route planner instead. Gold Rush! Classic puts you in Jerrod Wilson's boots during the 1849 California gold rush, offering three historical pathways to the goldfields. The appeal is in the decision-making: each route has different hazards, supply costs, and travel times. It's low-key and contemplative, more about resource management and route strategy than combat or exploration. The catch is that this is a barebones experience by modern standards. There's minimal narrative flourish, trading card mechanics that don't add much, and dated presentation that screams early 2010s indie. If you're a history buff who enjoys reading about the actual logistics of westward migration and want a game that mirrors that, you'll find something here. For everyone else, it's a niche curiosity that respects your time but doesn't offer much reward for it.
