GamerScout Verdict
Decent historical action-adventure hampered by repetitive design; best for patient gladiator fans on a tight budget.

About Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance
I spent a couple hours with Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance expecting the worst from a 2017 indie action game, and honestly it's not a complete disaster. The premise is solid: you're a slave-turned-warrior fighting your way through Roman decline to topple a tyrant. Combat is basic hack-and-slash with light RPG progression (loot, skills, gear upgrades), and it works fine in short bursts. The historical Rome setting gives it flavor that most arena brawlers don't bother with. But repetition kills it. Enemy variety is thin, levels blend together, and the whole thing feels like it was stretched too thin across a full campaign. Controller support and cloud saves mean you can grind this on the couch if you're determined, but there's nothing here that justifies extended play. Metacritic's 69 feels about right: technically functional, aesthetically pleasant, mechanically hollow.
