About Galactic Fighters + Soundtrack (DLC) Key
My instinct when I see a sub-five-dollar arcade shooter with almost no review footprint is to brace for disappointment, but Galactic Fighters earns a few genuine moments of respect once you understand what it is trying to be. This is a 3D bullet-hell space shooter built by a small indie outfit, structured across 13 levels of escalating alien waves and boss encounters, with a light roguelite skin of crafting, loot, and ship upgrades holding the run together. It wears its love of old-school arcade shooters openly, and at its best it scratches exactly that itch. The five unlockable ships are the clearest sign that StarworkGC thought about player expression. The Space Crow is your nimble beginner ship, rapid-firing lasers and relying on its small hitbox to survive. The Galactic Apache leans into raw speed and aggressive rushdowns. The Iron Dragonfly brings five simultaneous cannons plus explosive bombs, which is as chaotic as it sounds. Switching between first-person and third-person perspectives mid-campaign is a small touch that genuinely changes how you read incoming projectile patterns, and it is worth experimenting with both rather than defaulting to one. The Boss Rush mode, tucked away for those who clear the main campaign, is where the game shows its steeliest ambition, condensing all the bosses into one relentless gauntlet. Here is where I have to be honest with the people reading this, though. The Steam community discussions surface real technical friction: launch issues on Linux, a bug that requires restarting the game after unlocking a new ship to actually access it in the hangar, and a general roughness in UI that suggests the dev team was stronger on game-feel instincts than on polish time. The review pool on Steam is tiny, which means you are buying with almost no community safety net. No Metacritic score exists, and the player base is quiet. The macOS situation is also worth flagging: the game is not compatible with macOS Catalina or newer, so Mac players are effectively locked out unless they run an older system. For a certain kind of player, none of that matters. If you have a soft spot for small games that got made because someone genuinely loved classic arcade shooters and wanted to build one themselves, Galactic Fighters has that handmade sincerity in its bones. The premise, a suicide mission called Operation Riding a Wormhole against an interdimensional faction named Bokor, is pulpy and unpretentious. The pacing across 13 levels is steady rather than exciting, and the crafting loop is thin by modern roguelite standards, but the core of dodging bullet patterns while managing your ship's upgrade path has an honest simplicity to it. Think of it less as a refined product and more as a first serious attempt from a team that cared about the genre. Kai, Scout Team
