A PS1-era-style 3D platformer where your only tool is a frog-shaped grappling hook. Charming, chunky, and built for players who grew up on N64 collect-a-thons.

Frogun is a compact 3D platformer that wears its PS1 and N64 influences without any irony. You play as Renata, a kid explorer whose main - and essentially only - tool is the Frogun itself: a frog-shaped grappling hook that you fire at surfaces, enemies, and objects to swing, grab, and yank your way through levels set inside crumbling ancient ruins. The whole thing has that boxy, low-poly aesthetic that studios have been mining for nostalgia points, but Molegato actually understands why those old games felt good to control, not just how they looked. The core mechanic is tighter than it sounds. Latching onto a sticky surface and swinging to a distant platform is satisfying from the first level, and the game keeps layering on ways to use the hook - pulling items, stunning enemies, retrieving collectibles just out of reach. Level design is where Frogun earns most of its goodwill: stages are short and focused, filled with optional challenges and hidden items that reward exploration without turning every level into a checklist slog. It is clearly modeled on that N64 structure where a world hub connects themed worlds, and the pacing feels right for a few stages at a time. That said, Frogun is a small game. The campaign does not overstay its welcome, which is a polite way of saying completionists will see everything fairly quickly. The difficulty curve is gentle enough that seasoned platformer players may find it breezy until the later stages, where precision jumps and tighter timing start demanding more respect. There is a two-player split-screen PvP mode included, which is a fun bonus but clearly not the reason to pick this up. Story is minimal - Renata wants to find her missing parents, the ruins are dangerous - and that is absolutely fine. Nobody is playing Frogun for narrative depth. Visually the lo-fi pixel-and-polygon look is consistent and endearing. The soundtrack leans into that same retro comfort. It is not technically demanding, runs smoothly, and full controller support makes it feel exactly like the childhood game it is trying to evoke. For parents looking for something to play alongside younger kids, the split-screen option and approachable difficulty make a reasonable case. For solo players, this is a tight, honest tribute to an era of platformers that did not need open worlds to be fun - just one clever tool and good level design. Alex, Scout Team

Best for platformer fans with N64 nostalgia who want a focused, charming session rather than a sprawling adventure.
