For the strategy-first crowd, the honest question is always whether a DLC moves the decision-making needle. Untold Tales does so only lightly. The new event chains inject some narrative variety into mid-session lulls, giving your senate screen and exploration popup windows a little more to say. That matters more than it sounds in a game where the early scouting phase can feel procedurally thin if you have already logged fifty-plus hours. The cosmetic additions, including hero customisation options and visual variety, scratch an immersion itch without touching balance, which is the correct call for a content pack of this scope. Where Endless Space 2 itself earns its Very Positive rating is in faction asymmetry. The Unfallen spread vines between systems instead of colonising normally. The Vodyani consume planet resources and live on arks. The Horatio clone themselves for population bonuses. Each of these factions demands a genuinely different build priority from turn one, and that diversity is what gives the base game its replay shelf life. Untold Tales does not add a new faction, so if deeper mechanical asymmetry is what you are after, the larger expansions, Supremacy or Awakening, are the ones to check first. For newcomers weighing whether to start with the base game plus DLC bundle approach: Endless Space 2's tutorial is competent, not coddling. It walks you through the core economy and fleet combat system without overwhelming the interface, and the early-game pacing is forgiving enough that a few misallocated Science points will not sink your first run. Untold Tales adds nothing to that onboarding experience, so there is no learning-curve reason to grab it before you know whether the base game clicks for you. Treat it as a quality-of-life layer for a player who already considers this a rotation title. The mod ecosystem on Steam is active, and AMPLITUDE's track record of engaging with community feedback means the game has been patched meaningfully since launch. Untold Tales ages cleanly inside that context because its additions are cosmetic-adjacent rather than balance-dependent. No patch is going to break a story event chain. That stability is genuinely worth noting for anyone building a long-term modded install. Bottom line: this is a side dish for existing fans, not an entry point and not a mechanical expansion. If the base game already has its hooks in you, Untold Tales is a reasonable grab to refresh the visual and narrative surface.
