About Dysan the Shapeshifter
I approached Dysan the Shapeshifter expecting either a hidden gem or a cautionary tale, and it's honestly hard to tell which. The core pitch is solid: an adventure RPG where shapeshifting isn't just flavor text but a core mechanic that gates progression and puzzle-solving. The problem is that Wild Games Studio built this with almost no tutorial or quest guidance, so you're left poking around trying to figure out what form unlocks which door or whether that NPC needs talking to three times. For a 2014 indie release, the ambition is there. The execution feels like it needed another six months of polish and UI clarity. If you're the type who enjoys old adventure games that assume you'll write notes and experiment, Dysan might scratch that itch. Anyone else should know upfront: this is a game that will frustrate you before it rewards you. The shapeshifting concept deserves better presentation than it gets here.
