About Doomed Kingdoms
I went in expecting asset-flip shovelware and got something oddly sincere instead. Doomed Kingdoms is a 2016 indie action-RPG that leans hard into '90s dungeon crawler aesthetics: isometric view, class-based progression, turn-based combat that sometimes feels real-time, and zero hand-holding. The world-building is sparse but functional, and there's a genuine satisfaction in finding decent gear and watching your character grow. Where it stumbles is obvious: the UI is cluttered, animations are stiff, and combat can feel unresponsive. Enemy variety is thin, and the pacing drags in spots. But if you grew up on games like Diablo or early Baldur's Gate and you're willing to forgive production shortcuts, there's a small, functional RPG here worth a few hours. It's not polished, but it knows what it is.
