Donkey Kong Bananza
Nintendo's 3D platformer brings Donkey Kong back with colorful action-adventure gameplay that feels like a spiritual successor to the studio's mid-tier console efforts.
GamerScout Verdict
A solid Nintendo platformer for families and explorers, less essential for players chasing pure mechanical mastery.

About Donkey Kong Bananza
I went in expecting another by-the-numbers platformer, but Donkey Kong Bananza surprised me with its focus on traversal and environmental interaction over pure combat. The 3D camera gives you real freedom to explore each level, and the game rewards curiosity with hidden areas and collectibles that actually change how you approach obstacles. The ape's moveset is tight - ground pounds, barrel throws, and swing mechanics that click after a few hours of play. What holds it back is pacing. Between the action sequences are stretches of exploration that drag, and the difficulty curve feels uneven, especially in later levels where enemy placement gets frustrating rather than challenging. It's clearly made for Nintendo's family audience first, hardcore platformer fans second. If you loved Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze but wanted something more experimental and less focused on precision jumping, this lands in a sweet middle ground - just don't expect it to reinvent the wheel.
