I'll be honest: when I first heard Behaviour Interactive was dropping Nicolas Cage into Dead by Daylight as a playable survivor, I assumed it was a publicity stunt that would coast on the meme and deliver nothing interesting mechanically. I was wrong on the second half. This chapter pack, released in July 2023, is one of the more creatively designed survivor additions the game has seen, and it works on two levels simultaneously: pure chaos and genuine strategic depth. For the uninitiated, Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric multiplayer horror game where four survivors repair generators and try to escape while a single killer hunts them across procedurally assembled maps. Survivors play in third-person, the killer in first-person. This chapter pack adds Nicolas Cage himself as a licensed survivor, complete with his likeness and full voice-over work. He is, notably, the first real-life person added as a playable survivor in the game's history, rather than a fictional character he portrayed. The lore ties him to an existing chapter via a fictional screenplay called "Descend Beyond," weaving him into the Entity's mythology in a way that actually makes sense within the game's canon. The three perks are where things get interesting. Dramaturgy gives Cage a 25% speed boost while running but triggers one of four random follow-up effects: a brief Exposed debuff, an extra speed boost, an involuntary scream, or dropping your held item in exchange for a Firecracker. It is essentially a risk-reward roulette that punishes passive play. Scene Partner activates inside the killer's terror radius: look at the killer, reveal their aura for a few seconds, but also scream involuntarily, with a small chance of screaming a second time. Plot Twist lets you silently enter the dying state while crouched and injured, leave no blood pools, and then either recover fully or use it as a stealth reset. The perk synergy between the three is real: Plot Twist can restore you to healthy status so Dramaturgy becomes available again, setting up a loop that rewards experienced players who can read a trial. That said, reviewers broadly agree that these perks lean more toward entertaining chaos than pure efficiency, and newer players will get burned by the Exposed risk on Dramaturgy before they learn to manage it. The Chapter Pack version specifically bundles Cage the survivor with two cosmetic outfits: the exclusive Teal Jacket and the Very Rare Gorgon Drip outfit. Both are unavailable separately outside this pack, which makes the bundle the smarter buy for anyone who wants the cosmetic side of the addition alongside the survivor unlock. The voice-over is the undeniable star of the package, with nearly ten minutes of lines recorded by Cage himself, including killer-specific interactions and some genuinely absurdist in-game commentary. The caveats are real but minor for the right player. His perks are not meta-defining and are best described as high-skill-floor with a playful ceiling. If you are a Dead by Daylight veteran looking for a competitive edge, Cage is not the most efficient purchase. If you already play the game regularly and want a character who makes every trial feel slightly unhinged, this delivers exactly that.
