Dead by Daylight - Headcase (DLC)

I'll be straight with you: Headcase is one of the most context-dependent purchases in the entire Dead by Daylight catalogue, and the context is not flattering right now. Released back in June 2017 as the third cosmetic clothing pack for the game, it covers the six original Survivors - Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake, Nea, and Ace - with two head customizations each. Think Dwight's Preppy Flatcap, Ace's gloriously thick Tomstache, Nea's duo-tone Night Out look, and Meg's Tier III Braids. Twelve pieces total, all purely cosmetic, no gameplay benefit of any kind. The core problem is what happened after launch. As of Patch 3.4.0, the majority of these cosmetics were distributed to all players for free across every platform. Then, on 8 January 2024, the Headcase DLC was formally retired from third-party storefronts. Its content still exists as a bundle inside the in-game store directly. Buying this Steam key in 2025 means you may already own most of what it contains, or you can access the same pieces through the in-game shop without hunting for a key. That is not a hypothetical gotcha - it is the actual state of things. There is nothing wrong with the cosmetics themselves. The hairstyle variety hits a reasonable range of personality types - Jake gets the Explorer Beanie and the Jakebun, Claudette gets the Myopian Frohawk and a Colorful Headscarf. Behaviour clearly put care into matching the accessories to each Survivor's established character vibe. If you are the kind of player who cares about a cohesive look for your main, a couple of these are genuinely well-designed pieces. The problem was never the art. It was the value proposition, which was already thin at the original $2.99 launch price and has only gotten harder to defend as the years and patches have changed what you actually get for your money. Who should still consider this? Completionists who want every piece on their Steam account record, collectors who specifically want the DLC entry rather than the in-game bundle version, and fans of the classic original-cast era who want to signal that on their profile. Everyone else should check their in-game cosmetic inventory first, because there is a real chance Headcase already handed you its contents for free. Approach with eyes open and expectations firmly set to "cosmetic hat pack" and nothing more.
