The official Hasbro board game lands on PC with online multiplayer, cross-platform play, and a smart virtual Clue Sheet. Clean and faithful, but DLC friction and aging online infrastructure are real talking points.

Clue/Cluedo: The Classic Mystery Game is exactly what the name promises: a faithful digital port of Hasbro's 70-year-old deduction board game, built by Marmalade Game Studio and released on Steam in 2018. Six suspects (Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Reverend Green, Dr. Orchid, Professor Plum), six weapons, nine rooms in Tudor Mansion, and one sealed envelope. Your job is to eliminate possibilities faster than the other players do. Every session runs 15-30 minutes, making it a cleaner solo or social experience than most things in the strategy genre. The core loop holds up because the deduction system is genuinely tight. You roll the dice, move to a room, make a suggestion ("Colonel Mustard, with the Rope, in the Study?"), and watch who can disprove you. The virtual Clue Sheet auto-marks cards you have been shown, and you can layer your own manual notations on top for the kind of secondary deduction that separates average players from sharp ones. Pay close attention to which opponent responds to a rival suggestion and which stays silent: information you never had to track in the physical game is now surfaced cleanly on screen. That is the one area where the digital version genuinely adds decision-making rather than just removing cardboard. For the strategy-brained player looking at this as a solo experience, the AI runs on multiple difficulty settings and does not simply fold. It won't redefine your concept of opponent intelligence, but it is consistent and does not telegraph its deductions in obvious ways. The main limitation solo is that the single board in the base package (Tudor Mansion) gets familiar fast, and most cosmetic alternatives are behind paid DLC or a season pass. The game launched with a pay-to-win hint card system that community pressure got removed, and the cosmetic-only DLC model that replaced it is a reasonable tradeoff, though post-match upsell prompts are persistent and annoying. Multiplayer is cross-platform (PC, iOS, Android) and supports up to six players, which is the correct headcount for a full game. Private lobbies with friends work well on stable connections. The persistent community concern is matchmaking timeouts that fill your lobby with AI opponents before you can find human players, and older user reports flag connection drops in public online games. Neither issue is a game-breaker for the offline solo or private-group use case, but if online ranked ladders are the draw, temper expectations. Weekly leaderboards are present for competitive context if you want a number to chase. For anyone who owns the physical box and wants a solo option that handles bookkeeping, or a group that can never find all six player tokens, this version is a sensible alternative. It is not a systems-deep strategy title: there are no build orders, no tech trees, no late-game scaling. What it offers is a short, focused deduction exercise with clean UI and a globally available player pool. Approach it for what it is, not for what it is not, and it earns its place in a library.
