Cipher Monk
A tiny puzzle game that teaches you a real 13th-century number system, then quizzes you on it until it clicks. Rough edges everywhere, but the core idea lands.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth an evening if learning a genuine medieval numeral system sounds fun; skip it if you want puzzle depth.
Compare Prices(2 stores)
Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About Cipher Monk
The first hour is a wall, and it's an intentional one. Cipher Monk drops you in front of Cistercian numerals, a medieval shorthand where a single glyph encodes any number up to 9999 via marks hanging off a central stem, and expects you to decode them with almost no hand-holding. My early attempts were pure guesswork, mentally rotating quadrants and getting them backwards. Push through maybe twenty puzzles and something genuinely satisfying happens: you stop decoding and start reading. That flip is the whole product, and it does deliver it. What it doesn't deliver is much around that flip. This is a bare-bones singleplayer package from Heavy Sheep, released in February 2024, with achievements to chase and not a lot else. No difficulty curve worth the name, minimal presentation, and once the system clicks the remaining puzzles become arithmetic homework rather than discovery. Treat it as an interactive lesson with a good hook rather than a game with legs, and you'll get what you came for in an evening.
