About Chronicles of a Dark Lord: Episode II War of The Abyss
The store page sells a sprawling war across an abyss, and what actually loads is a compact, sprite-based turn-based RPG in the classic RPG Maker mold. The mismatch matters less than you'd expect. Episode II continues the Chronicles of a Dark Lord thread with tighter combat and heavier story beats than the first outing, and Kisareth Studios clearly cares about the dark-lord framing the series is named for. Battles are menu-driven and readable, dungeons are hand-placed rather than randomly churned out, and pacing rewards players who actually read the dialogue instead of mashing through it. Where it thins out is production scale. Stock-feeling assets turn up often enough to flatten the atmosphere, encounter design leans on plain attrition more than clever party building, and the silent cutscenes ask you to supply the drama yourself. If you grew up on late-90s console RPGs and can shrug off indie rough edges, there is a genuine little game here. If you need modern polish or a long tail of systems to chew on, this is not your door in.
