Chicken Coop

I'm not usually the audience for cozy farm games, but Chicken Coop's stripped-down design respects your time. You manage a magical farm abandoned by humans: plant crops, construct buildings with tools, and recruit critters like a mischievous cat to guard against thieves. The mechanics are straightforward enough that a kid can grasp them within minutes, but there's enough planning (crop rotations, recruitment timing, tool upgrades) to keep adults from zoning out entirely. What works is the charm. Chickens wearing hats and genuinely expressive NPCs give the game character beyond its pixel-art presentation. What doesn't is the complete lack of challenge or stakes. Once you understand the loop, there's no fail state, no resource scarcity, no reason to optimize. It's not a flaw if what you want is pure zen farming.
