Chess Ultra
A gorgeous, calm place to actually learn chess, provided you can live with an AI opponent that either rolls over or crushes you with little in between.
GamerScout Verdict
Best for lapsed or curious players who want a beautiful board to learn on, not for anyone chasing serious engine analysis.
Compare Prices(7 stores)
Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About Chess Ultra
The first hour is mostly menus. You pick a board, pick a venue, fiddle with camera angles and piece sets, and wonder when the chess part starts. Push through, because the presentation is the point: rendered marble and wood boards, VR support if you have a headset, and a slate of tutorials and puzzle challenges that make it one of the more welcoming ways to sit down with the game if you last played on a plastic set as a kid. The Grandmaster challenges and the difficulty ladder give you something to climb, and online multiplayer with cross-play means you are not stuck grinding bots forever. Where it disappoints is the engine's personality. Difficulty tiers swing hard, and the mid-range AI has a habit of playing solid for twenty moves then handing you a piece, which is not how a human loses. Serious players will bounce straight back to a free web client with better analysis tools. This is chess as an ambience, a handsome digital board for learners and casual returners, not a training suite.
