Compare Carcassonne: The River prices across trusted key stores and find the best deal. Developed by Twin Sails Interactive, Frima Studio. Published by Twin Sails Interactive. Released on 11/29/2017. Available on PC. Genres: Casual, Strategy.

Eleven tiles that quietly rewrite Carcassonne's opening. Great if the fixed start tile bores you, pointless if the base game isn't already in your rotation.

The River asks for forty minutes, no reflexes, and the discipline to think two tiles ahead, which is the cheapest strategy tax I pay all week. In return it rewrites the opening of a Carcassonne match: eleven river tiles replace the single starting tile, so you draft a winding spine across the board and place meeples while land is still cheap. Early farm claims along the bends decide points nobody tallies until the very end. The catch is scope. Eleven tiles cannot carry a whole session, and the AI still plays tidy, unambitious openings that stop teaching you after a dozen games. Online turn notifications and cross-platform play are where it actually earns time. Worth it if Carcassonne is already in your rotation and the same fixed start has gone stale. Not worth it if you are still learning where your first farmer goes. Diego, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Worth it for regular Carcassonne players tired of the same opening; skip it if the base game is still new to you.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
