About Barclay: The Marrowdale Murder
I found Barclay a refreshing detour from horror's usual bag of tricks. Instead of relying on monsters or gore, it leans into the tension of a locked-room mystery where you're searching for clues, interrogating suspects, and piecing together what really happened at Marrowdale. The puzzle design feels deliberate - not arbitrary inventory combinations, but logic gates that force you to think like an investigator. It's short and deliberately paced, which works for the genre but means replayability hinges on whether you'll care to dig for alternate solutions. The main friction is that adventure game conventions sometimes clash with the mystery framework. A few puzzle solutions feel more obscure than fair, and the horror elements (when they appear) are more ambient dread than scares. If you're burned out on action-horror and want something that respects your intelligence, this scratches an itch. It's a niche game for a niche taste, and it knows it.
