A hundred-plus hours of Viking mayhem that rewards patient world-builders and punishes anyone hoping for a tight, focused RPG experience.

I have spent more time staring at Ravensthorpe's half-finished longhouse than I care to admit, and that settlement loop is both the best and most honest metaphor for what Assassin's Creed Valhalla actually is: a game that starts as a focused Viking saga and quietly expands into an obligation. That mixed Steam score of 69% from over 44,000 reviews tells the story better than any press embargo ever could. On the RPG side, Valhalla does several things that genuinely impressed me. The skill system abandons Odyssey's rigid level-gating in favour of a sprawling constellation grid where you slot and remove points freely, letting you respec into ranged, melee, or stealth builds without penalty. Abilities are not handed to you through menus either. You earn them by cracking open Books of Knowledge hidden in crypts and environmental puzzles scattered across England, which means exploration has mechanical weight rather than being pure tourism. The settlement at Ravensthorpe acts as your hub, and building it out unlocks new questlines, buffs from clan feasts, fishing, hunting contracts, and early hunts for the Order of the Ancients. For the first thirty hours, every new building feels like pulling a thread that reveals more world. The writing holds up better than the broader Ubisoft reputation might suggest. Eivor, whether you play male, female, or let the Animus swap gender at story-relevant moments for reasons that pay off later, carries genuine emotional weight across the alliance arcs with England's regional lords. Norse mythology is woven in without becoming an incomprehensible lore dump, and the moments where your choices stick, a betrayal you had to call without full information, an alliance that costs more than it gives, land with real consequence. The voice acting across both Eivor performances is strong enough that I did not regret either pick. Here is where I start roasting the filler, though, because there is a lot of it. The map is enormous, and the side content bloats well past the point where variety can paper over repetition. Cairn stacking puzzles, flying papers, standing stone alignments, and world events blur into a checklist grind that would exhaust even the most patient completionist. Combat is functional but not exciting: light attacks, heavy attacks, parry timing, adrenaline abilities. It works. It rarely thrills. Raiding Saxon settlements with your longship crew is the combat loop at its most cinematic, but individual fights against the endless stream of guards in any given outpost start feeling like chores by hour fifty. Microtransactions also loom over the gear system in a way that undercuts the satisfaction of earning powerful kit through play. The Deluxe Edition bundles in the Berserker cosmetic packs covering gear, settlement skins, and longship cosmetics, which are fine additions if you care about visual customisation but do not change the underlying game. For RPG players who want a rich Norse world, a settlement to grow, and a story worth finishing, Valhalla delivers. For players who need tight pacing, meaningful branching choices at every turn, or combat that matches the ambition of the setting, the cracks show before the credits roll. Monika, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
