I've always had a soft spot for indie beat-em-ups that swing for something beyond button-mashing. Amid the Lines drops you into Detective Northwood's shoes with combat that feels intentional - the fighting mechanics are surprisingly tight for a one-person project, and there's real weight to the strikes. The story unfolds with the kind of noir sensibility that makes you want to see what's around the next corner, not the sort of narrative that feels bolted on top of the action. The trade-off is obvious: you won't find AAA production values here. But there's something honest about that restraint. This is a game that knows what it wants to be and commits to it without apology. If you're the type who'd rather play a 6-hour brawler with soul than a 40-hour bloat-fest, and you're willing to meet a small game halfway, Amid the Lines respects that.
