Planetfall's defining trick is that every unit you field can be modded, and that single system changes how you approach a campaign. You are not picking a soldier off a list, you are bolting arc rifles and psionic shielding onto a chassis until your squad reflects whatever your faction's tech tree let you salvage. That is where the hours go, and it is why the tactical layer holds up long after the 4X empire map settles into routine. This package is the add-on layer, not the game. Expect the digital soundtrack and art assets that dress up a collection rather than change a turn. Nothing here rewrites a build, unlocks a faction, or adds a campaign, so a first-time commander gains nothing by starting with it. Get the standard edition, decide whether the mod bench keeps you up past midnight, and only then come back for the extras. If you already love the score enough to want it offline, the value is obvious. If you do not, this is shelf-filler.
