The campaigns are the strongest thing here, and it isn't close. Age of Empires IV cuts real-location documentary footage between missions and uses them to teach mechanics rather than just gate them. Underneath is the classic Age loop: wood, food, gold and stone, age up, wall in, then choose between an early cavalry rush or turtling behind stone and winning the siege war. Civilizations are genuinely asymmetric, which is where multiplayer either grabs you or loses you. The Mongols pack up buildings and relocate, the English lean on longbows and defensive fire, and learning to counter all of it takes weeks. That's the cost: the ranked ladder punishes anyone who hasn't drilled build orders, and the art style stays functional rather than beautiful. A bundle version front-loads the content, so the real question is whether you'll clear the campaigns once and shelve it or settle in for a year of 1v1s.
