I went in expecting a Paradox-style grand strategy layer wrapped around espionage mechanics, hacking, assassinations, political interference, military strikes, all the dirty tools of modern statecraft. What 4th Generation Warfare delivers is closer to a tactical team-dispatch game where you position agents globally and execute missions with real consequences for your standing. The systems talk to each other: sabotage weakens an enemy's infrastructure, corruption opens diplomatic doors, assassinations destabilize regions. That's solid design in theory. The problem, reflected in the 56% Steam score, is execution friction. Players report the tutorial doesn't adequately prepare you for the web of mechanics, the AI can feel predictable once you map its patterns, and the mid-game progression loses momentum as missions blend together. Multiplayer (PvP and co-op) adds replayability, but you'll hit balance issues and pacing problems solo first. Worth a shot if you're hungry for asymmetric espionage gameplay and willing to tolerate rough edges.
