What is Microsoft Office 2019 Professional Plus?

Microsoft Office 2019 Professional Plus is a perpetual-licence version of Microsoft's core productivity suite, released by Microsoft in September 2018. Unlike Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), this edition is a one-time purchase — you pay once and own the licence indefinitely, with no renewal required.

It targets business and power users who want the full desktop application set without committing to a subscription model. Microsoft Office 2019 follows the Fixed Lifecycle Policy, which means it has a single end-of-support date: **October 14, 2025**. Up to that date it receives security and quality fixes; after it, no further patches of any kind will be issued. This makes it a legacy product on a defined end-of-life trajectory.

What's included

Professional Plus is the most complete edition in the Office 2019 lineup. It includes:

• **Word** — word processing with real-time collaboration support (via OneDrive/SharePoint)
• **Excel** — spreadsheets with new functions added since 2016 (CONCAT, IFS, TEXTJOIN, etc.)
• **PowerPoint** — presentation software with morph transitions and zoom navigation
• **Outlook** — email and calendar client
• **Access** — relational database application (Windows only)

Compared with the standard "Home and Business" retail edition, Professional Plus adds Access and Publisher. It does not include Microsoft Teams as a standalone install in the traditional sense — Teams became a separate product over this product generation.

Office 2019 applications do not receive new feature updates (only security and quality fixes), so capabilities are fixed at the 2018 feature level.

Licence & activation

Keys sold for Office 2019 Professional Plus fall into two categories, and it is important to understand the difference before buying:

• **Retail (FPP) keys** — fully transferable. You can deactivate on one machine and activate on another. These are the most flexible.
• **OEM / MAK / volume keys** — typically cheaper, but OEM licences are intended to be tied to the original hardware and are not transferable to a new PC. Volume/MAK keys originate from bulk Microsoft licensing agreements and their terms vary; reselling them is a grey area in many jurisdictions.

Activation is handled through Microsoft's own servers. After purchase you receive a product key by email; you install Office from Microsoft's official download portal and enter the key during setup. No disc or physical packaging is required.

Is it worth it?

Office 2019 Professional Plus suits users who need reliable, fully offline productivity software and have no desire to pay a monthly subscription. It is particularly appropriate where internet connectivity is limited or where IT policy prohibits subscription-based software.

The honest caveats: support for this product ends on October 14, 2025, after which no security updates will be issued. Microsoft 365 Personal or Business delivers the same apps, always-current features, and 1 TB of OneDrive storage for a monthly fee that may compare favourably over a multi-year horizon.

If you are buying a cheaper OEM key, understand it is locked to the machine you activate it on — it cannot be transferred if you upgrade your hardware. Retail keys cost more but give you that flexibility. Check which type you are purchasing before completing the transaction.
