Fifty-fifty on Steam and no English language support - Wuxia Master has charm buried under layers of friction that will test your patience before it rewards it.

I went into Wuxia Master hoping for something in the neighbourhood of Tale of Wuxia - a compact SLG-RPG set in ancient China, built around daily time management, character stat cultivation, and a web of relationships that slowly pulls you into a royal court conspiracy. The bones are genuinely there. You play a warrior fresh off the road, arriving in the capital with a single goal: win the tournament that decides who earns the title of Wuxia Master. Between now and that contest, you have a city to explore, a life to build, and a cast of over twenty heroes to befriend, antagonise, or romance. On paper, that loop is exactly the kind of thing I want from an afternoon-sized RPG. The daily structure gives you real agency over how you develop. Five core attributes can be shaped in different directions, and dozens of talent selections let you build a warrior who leans into swordsmanship, finger techniques, staff arts, or a hybrid that splices income generation at the restaurant with black-market martial arts manuals. The combat system asks you to read your opponent's rhythm, time your counters, and exploit openings rather than just stat-check your way through fights. There is a satisfying tactical layer lurking under the light presentation - when it clicks, the fights feel earned. The ink-painting art style is genuinely pretty, and the Spine 2D character animations give the roster a fluidity that belies the game's modest scope. Here is the problem that none of the warm aesthetic goodwill can fix: the game released without English language support, and that has never changed. The interface and all story text are in Chinese. For players who cannot read Traditional or Simplified Chinese, Wuxia Master is effectively a puzzle game with no solution key. The narrative threads involving the royal court, an evil cult, and a princess from a fallen dynasty sound exactly like the kind of tangled political storytelling I dig, but they are completely inaccessible without the language. Even for those who read Chinese, community reception has landed at a dead-even split - the relaxed pacing that works as a selling point for some reads as undercooked to others, and the content volume does not justify a long replay. For what it is - a short, breezy SLG from a small Taiwanese studio with licensed cameos from the Fate Seeker and Tale of Wuxia rosters - Wuxia Master has more personality than its mixed score suggests. The problem is that personality is locked behind a language barrier the developer has shown no urgency to remove. If you read Chinese and enjoy the cultivation-sim sub-genre, this scratches that itch modestly well. Everyone else should treat this as a wishlist item for a localisation patch that may never arrive, and point their attention toward the broader, better-supported Heluo catalogue instead. GamerScout Verdict

Worth it only if you read Chinese - a charming but language-locked cultivation RPG that non-Chinese readers should skip for now.
