A vampire survival-builder with real bite: raise a gothic castle, hunt humans for blood, and carve out territory in a hostile open world, solo or with others online.

Let me be upfront: V Rising is not a shooter, and the Legacy of Castlevania Premium Pack is DLC for a game I'd normally hand off to someone else on the team. But Stunlock Studios made something here that even a movement-tech obsessive like me finds hard to put down, so here we go. At its core, V Rising is a top-down action survival game where you wake up as a weakened vampire and work your way back to full power. You build and expand a castle, hunt wildlife and human settlements for blood, craft gear, and unlock new abilities by tracking down and killing powerful V Blood carriers scattered across the map. The Legacy of Castlevania Premium Pack layers on content directly tied to the Castlevania universe: new bosses, cosmetics, and themed gear that fits the gothic aesthetic without feeling bolted on. If you already own V Rising, this pack is essentially extra dressing on an already solid meal. What actually works well is the combat loop. Movement in this game has more nuance than you'd expect from the genre. Dodging, ability timing, and knowing when to disengage from a fight matter a lot, especially when you hit the mid-game bosses that genuinely punish mistakes. The blood system adds a layer of build thinking I appreciated: different blood types from different enemy types give passive bonuses, so you end up making deliberate choices about who you drink from before a boss attempt. Weapon variety is reasonable, with swords, spears, axes, and spellcasting all feeling distinct enough to justify switching. The open-world PvP servers are where things get ruthless, but the PvE options are perfectly viable if you just want the progression without the grief. The weak points are real though. Server performance on crowded public servers can get rough, and the multiplayer infrastructure is not exactly enterprise-grade netcode. For a game with an MMO genre tag it leans heavily on the self-hosted server model, which means your experience is very dependent on whoever is running the box. Solo play is completely viable but the castle-building side of things scales better with a couple of friends dividing labour. The Legacy of Castlevania content specifically is cosmetic and content-adjacent rather than mechanically transformative, so if you're on the fence about base V Rising, buy that first and decide separately about this pack. The grind is also real. Mid-to-late game progression slows down noticeably, and if you're the type who wants a clean session of an hour and then out, V Rising will occasionally punish you by gating progress behind resource runs that take longer than expected. It rewards the patient builder more than the impatient hunter. For what it is, V Rising with this pack is one of the more interesting genre hybrids on PC right now: action combat that actually demands skill, survival building that doesn't feel busywork-heavy compared to competitors, and a Castlevania skin that is handled with genuine respect for the source material. Not my usual beat, but I get why 133,000 reviews are sitting at 89 percent positive. Fred, Scout Team
