Obsidian turns The Outer Worlds into a whodunit. Murder on Eridanos is a compact murder-mystery DLC with real investigative mechanics and sharp corporate satire.

Murder on Eridanos is the second and final story expansion for The Outer Worlds, and it leans hard into a premise that suits Obsidian's writing style almost uncomfortably well: a locked-room murder mystery set on a luxury resort planet run by a booze corporation. If Peril on Gorgon felt like a detour, Eridanos feels like the team finally found the angle they wanted to explore all along. You are investigating the death of Halcyon Helen, a celebrity spokeswoman for Rizzo's spirits, and the whole floating archipelago has been sealed off until someone figures out who did it. That someone is you. The expansion introduces the Discrepancy Amplifier, a handheld device that functions as your investigation tool. You scan crime scenes, collect clues, and build a case file that actually tracks your leads in a coherent way. It is not a deep forensics sim, but it is a genuine mechanical layer that the base game never had, and it gives the murder-mystery framing real teeth. Suspects have alibis. Alibis fall apart. The corporate spin on every death and scandal is consistently funny and occasionally biting. Obsidian's dialogue writers clearly enjoyed writing a cast of Rizzo's employees who are all, in one way or another, desperately covering something up. Your existing character carries over with full build integrity, which matters because Eridanos scales to a higher level range and actually gives your skill investments room to breathe. High Persuade opens deflections. High Lie lets you bluff past witnesses who would otherwise clam up. High Science lets you interrogate the physical evidence more precisely. The choices feel meaningful in the way the base game sometimes struggled to sustain past the midpoint. There are a handful of side quests, and while a couple veer toward the filler end of the spectrum, most tie back into the central mystery in satisfying ways. The setting deserves a mention because it does real work. Eridanos is a gas giant whose upper atmosphere has been colonized into a resort, and the art direction runs with that cloud-city aesthetic without losing The Outer Worlds' retrofuturist corporate hellscape vibe. The environments are smaller in scope than the base game's open zones, which honestly helps. Everything feels purposeful. The writing rewards paying attention, and a second run with different dialogue skill priorities reveals enough variation to justify the runtime. The expansion is not a massive content drop. You are looking at four to six hours depending on how thoroughly you investigate, and the mystery's resolution lands somewhere between genuinely clever and slightly rushed. The final reveal works, but it moves fast. Players who want sprawling open-world RPG content will feel the seams. Players who want Obsidian doing what Obsidian does best, which is sharp character writing, systemic dialogue, and corporate satire with actual consequences, will find this a focused and satisfying package. It is the better of the two Outer Worlds expansions by a meaningful margin. Monika, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
