Tears of the Kingdom on the original Switch was a technical marvel being held together with duct tape and Nintendo magic, frequently dipping frames during heavy Ultrahand contraption chaos or busy overworld moments. The Switch 2 edition addresses all of that directly. You get a locked higher frame rate, support for up to 4K resolution in docked mode, HDR output for compatible displays, and noticeably faster load times when fast-travelling across Hyrule's surface, sky islands, and the Depths. The headline new feature bundled into this upgrade is Zelda Notes, a companion service that runs through the Nintendo Switch App on your smartphone. It offers voice-assisted navigation to help you locate shrines and Korok seeds, Voice Memories from Princess Zelda and other characters recorded specifically for this edition and not present in the original game, daily in-game bonuses, global play-data comparisons, and the ability to share Autobuild blueprints with other players via QR code. That last feature alone is genuinely interesting for the construction-obsessed crowd who spend hours engineering vehicles and war machines. The voice-navigation side is more divisive: if you want to find shrines yourself, you'll ignore it entirely, and that's fine. Here is where it gets practical. This pack does not add story missions, new dungeons, new weapons, or new areas. Tears of the Kingdom never received a traditional content expansion, and this upgrade does not change that. What it delivers is a cleaner, sharper version of a game that was already enormous, paired with a smartphone companion layer that some players will genuinely use and others will forget about after day one. If you are a completion-hunter who tracked every shrine, Korok seed, and Depth statue the first time around and felt fully satisfied, the performance jump is real but may not justify the entry on its own. If you left the game unfinished or want a clean reason to start a second run, the dual save file support is a practical bonus: your existing save transfers over, and you can start a fresh file alongside it without losing progress. The one clear asterisk is the Nintendo Switch Online plus Expansion Pack angle. Active subscribers on that tier get access to the upgrade at no additional charge, which changes the calculus entirely if you are already paying for that membership. For everyone else, this is a straightforward technical upgrade with a phone-based companion layer bolted on. Treat it as what it is: the definitive hardware version of one of the most ambitious open-world games ever built, not a second game or a story expansion. If your Switch 2 is your new primary machine and Hyrule is calling again, the case for picking this up is solid.
