The Legend of Candlewind: Nights & Candles
A hand-drawn dungeon crawler that promises old-school reverence and delivers clunky, hollow turn-based grinding. Nostalgia alone cannot carry 54 reviewers into forgiveness.
GamerScout Verdict
Skip it unless you collect grid-crawlers out of obligation. The classics it imitates are still cheaper and still better.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About The Legend of Candlewind: Nights & Candles
The store page sells you a return to the old dungeon crawler traditions: hand-drawn corridors, step-by-step movement, turn-based fights that supposedly test your skill. The skeleton of that promise is real. You do move tile by tile, you do queue attacks in a menu, and the art has a scratchy charm that suggests someone genuinely loved Eye of the Beholder. What is missing is everything the classics used tiles for. Encounters repeat without escalating, the interface fights you harder than the monsters do, and the writing never builds a world worth mapping on graph paper. Build variety is the real casualty. There is nothing here that rewards planning past the first hour, no character arc to pull you through the grind, no choice that echoes later. A 2015 indie RPG can absolutely earn a place next to Grimrock, but it has to give you a reason to open the next door. This one mostly gives you the same door. Play Legend of Grimrock or Might and Magic X instead.
