I've played survival games that nail the resource crunch and games that nail the narrative, but Survival Is Not Enough splits the difference poorly. You're dumped on an island infected with a virus, tasked with scavenging materials, building shelter, and fending off zombies in first-person combat that feels sluggish and imprecise. The premise has legs, waking up as a plague vector could be genuinely unsettling, but the game drowns it in tedious grinding and clunky mechanics that haven't aged well since 2017. The 35% positive rating tells you everything. Players praise the ambition and premise but consistently report janky AI, repetitive combat loops, and a map that feels more like busywork than exploration. If you're starved for obscure survival games and willing to tolerate rough edges, it's playable. Otherwise, your time is better spent elsewhere.
