A bare-bones indie PvP shooter with genuine mechanical honesty and zero active players left. Worth knowing what you're walking into before you click install.

My honest reaction when I dug into Shooty Squad was equal parts respect and resignation. Respect, because a solo developer built a voxel FPS with free-for-all, team deathmatch, and capture the flag modes, balanced five maps around actual weapon placement logic, and shipped a zombie mode as a solo offline fallback. Resignation, because the server browser is essentially empty in 2025, and that's the whole product. The core shooting loop is cleaner than the lo-fi pixel art suggests. The arsenal runs from machine guns and sniper rifles through to RPGs, and the design philosophy is straightforward: learn where each weapon spawns on a given map, use the terrain angles, and outthink the other guy rather than out-aimbot him. For a budget Unity release by a one-person team, the movement feels responsive enough that accuracy actually matters, which is rarer than it should be at this price tier. Ragdoll death animations add a slapstick layer that makes kills feel punchy without adding any real weight to the time-to-kill. Here's the problem I can't paper over. Steam concurrent user data shows essentially no active population. Community posts are people asking if anyone is still around. The last developer update is years old. This was an Early Access project that got some YouTube traction, pulled decent Steam ratings from a small but enthusiastic player base, and then quietly ran out of steam before leaving Early Access. The zombie mode exists as an offline consolation prize, but if you came here for PvP, that consolation is thin. If you grab this to play private matches with friends on voice chat, there is a functional, no-nonsense shooter underneath. The map design on CTF shows genuine thought, with the Payload map offering a low close-quarters route against an exposed high lane, which is the kind of asymmetric pressure that makes capture-the-flag actually worth playing. But that scenario requires you to already own the lobby. There is no ranked mode, no matchmaking, and no indication that development continues. Treat it as a LAN-party novelty at best, not a competitive ladder you can grind. Fred, Scout Team

Grab it only if you have friends to fill the lobby yourself - the bones are solid but the online is a ghost town.
