About Prelude Dark Pain
Prelude Dark Pain asks for patience before it hands you anything. The opening hours are heavy on setup: party assembly, grid positioning drills, and a rebellion plot that keeps its cards face down while you learn how brittle your frontline actually is. Push through and the tactical layer sharpens fast. Turn order manipulation and terrain matter more than raw stats, and party management stops being a menu chore once you realize how few resources you get between fights. The dark fantasy framing is grim without being edgy for its own sake, and the writing has real texture in places (that blacksmith deserved a better questline than the one he got). It is Early Access, and it shows in the pacing rather than the mechanics. Some chapters pad themselves with encounters that teach nothing new, and the roadmap is carrying weight the current build has not delivered yet. Still, at 81% positive across a few hundred reviews, the people who clicked with it clicked hard. If you want a tactics campaign with story rich ambitions and you're comfortable buying into something unfinished, this is a solid bet. If you need polish now, wait for 1.0.
