Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Studio Ghibli meets Dragon Quest in a gorgeous fairy-tale RPG that trades difficulty for charm, but stumbles when it prioritizes story spectacle over mechanical depth.
GamerScout Verdict
Beautiful and heartfelt, but mechanical depth takes a backseat to fairy-tale spectacle, best for patient players who value mood over challenge.

About Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
I went in expecting a sequel to the original Ni no Kuni's tight turn-based combat, and what I found instead was a real-time system that feels more forgiving than strategic. Evan's quest to rebuild a kingdom is narratively gorgeous, the watercolor aesthetic rivals Studio Ghibli's work, and the character arcs land where they matter most. The world genuinely feels alive, and exploring it rarely feels like a chore. The problem: combat encounters devolve into button-mashing once you've slotted your party into roles. The kingdom-building mechanic sounds deeper than it plays, and the story's emotional peaks can't quite justify the filler dungeons between them. If you're here for the visual storytelling and relaxed pacing, you'll find genuine magic. If you want mechanical challenge or systems depth, this kingdom's charms wear thin by hour 30.
