Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition
The Nemesis System makes every orc encounter feel personal, but a bloated endgame and aggressive monetization choices undermine what could've been Tolkien's best game.
GamerScout Verdict
Best for action-RPG fans willing to quit after the story ends and ignore the endgame monetization bait.

About Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition
I've sunk real hours into Shadow of War, and the core loop is genuinely addictive: hunt orcs, learn their names and grudges, dominate them into your army, then watch them betray or die in fortress battles. The Nemesis System is the best thing here, each enemy captain feels like a nemesis, not a stat block. Combat is fluid enough to carry you through 30 hours of story without friction. But then the endgame hits. The final stretch demands grinding fortress sieges ad nauseam, and the "free-to-play but pay-to-skip" loot boxes feel designed to extract money rather than enrich gameplay. The Ring forging system and gear tiers get bloated fast. If you play on story difficulty and ignore the endgame grinds, you'll have a solid 35-40 hour adventure. Chase the platinum or max every fortress, and you'll resent every hour after hour 50.
