I came to MetaPhysical because the PvP angle caught my eye, and I stayed because the two-phase structure - detect, then eliminate - gives the genre a mechanical backbone that most horror co-ops completely skip. You are not just running scared with an EMF reader. You are building a read on the creature, then committing to a kill method, and those are two genuinely different skill sets packed into one session. The investigation phase is where the teamwork lives. Your squad of up to six splits duties across ten roles: the Investigator cross-references evidence faster, the Medium senses when a hunt is imminent, the Priest skips the exorcism book requirement entirely. That role differentiation is doing real work. It means a coordinated group plays differently from a solo run or a random lobby, and that gap in experience is wide enough to matter. Tools include EMF devices, thermometers, motion detectors, holy water, and a ghost box, and you are cross-referencing all of that against a journal of creature types to narrow down what you are dealing with before you commit to a finisher. Burn the remains, perform an exorcism, deploy the right weapon - get it wrong and you have wasted your prep time and probably your health bar. The PvP mode is the wildcard here. One side plays as the creature, the other as hunters, and that asymmetry can be genuinely chaotic in a good way when both teams know what they are doing. As someone who cares about balance, I will say the mode feels more "fun chaos" than "tuned competitive", so do not expect ranked-ladder precision. The clan system and global leaderboard exist, which is a nice structural touch for a game at this price point, but the community size will determine how much longevity that ladder actually has. Random generation handles ghost names, note placement, and creature aggression level each run, so the investigation loop stays fresh longer than you might expect from an indie at this scale. The voice recognition mechanic deserves a mention because it is either a highlight or a headache depending on your setup. Speaking lines aloud to perform an exorcism is committed game design, and when it registers cleanly it adds real tension. When your microphone does not cooperate mid-hunt, it is infuriating in a way no keybind would be. The game offers a text-based fallback for accessibility, which is the right call. On the technical side, MetaPhysical is not a demanding title, so frame rate concerns are minimal - you are not going to need a 360hz panel to get value here. The co-op netcode is serviceable for a small indie, though session stability in larger lobbies is worth watching if the player count grows. If you have a consistent group of three to six friends who like horror co-op and want something with more mechanical teeth than the average ghost game, MetaPhysical delivers a more layered loop than its indie price tag suggests.
