I've got a soft spot for auto-battlers that don't pretend to be something they aren't. Legendary Creatures 2 leans into the format: you assemble a squad of recruitable troops and creatures, slot them onto a grid, and watch the battle play out with your finger off the button. The hook is evolution. You're constantly leveling units, fusing them into stronger forms, and experimenting with weapon synergies across runs. It's the kind of game that rewards theory-crafting more than reflexes, which means build variety actually matters if you're willing to read the toolkit. The roguelike spine keeps things fresh across multiple runs, though early-game pacing drags and there's minimal story to latch onto. If you're burned out on action-heavy RPGs and want something that runs itself while you sip coffee and plan your next synergy combo, this scratches that itch. Just don't expect narrative depth or triple-A production values.
