Hard West

Hard West caught me off guard. It's a turn-based tactics game wrapped around a revenge story that doesn't pull punches, your protagonist is hunting down people who destroyed his life, and the game treats that weight seriously instead of as window dressing. Each of the eight scenarios plays like a self-contained story mission, so you're not grinding the same maps repeatedly. The combat is punishing in the right way: limited ammo, positioning that actually matters, and no room for careless plays. Your units feel fragile, which forces tactical thinking rather than just auto-attacking through fog of war. The supernatural elements tie directly into gameplay mechanics rather than feeling bolted-on for flavor. Where it stumbles is pacing, some scenarios drag when the map design doesn't match the mission's narrative urgency. If you want turn-based tactics that respects your intelligence and pairs that with a story that earns its darkness, this scratches that itch. Just don't expect modern quality-of-life polish.
