Kratos beating Thor with his bare hands across all Nine Realms hits differently at 4K and uncapped framerates. PC players waited two years for this, and the wait was mostly worth it.

I have a rule: if a game makes me genuinely anxious about what a father is about to say to his son, it has earned my attention. God of War Ragnarok earned it inside the first twenty minutes and kept it across a runtime that runs deep into double-digit hours. This is the conclusion of the Norse chapter of Kratos' story, picking up directly after the 2018 reboot, and it is the kind of sequel that commits hard to emotional payoff even when its mechanical ambitions sometimes outpace its own clarity. Combat is built around three weapons: the returning Leviathan Axe, the Blades of Chaos, and a third that shows up later and genuinely refreshes the feel of every arena encounter right when the loop risks going stale. Switching between them mid-fight is fluid, and the over-the-shoulder camera keeps every brutal exchange up close and personal. Atreus contributes actively with bow attacks and companion abilities that become more relevant as enemy aggression scales up. The RPG layer, covering gear upgrades, skill trees, and runic attacks, is substantial enough to reward build experimentation without becoming a spreadsheet exercise. That said, some players will find the sheer volume of new mechanics piled onto Ragnarok's combat system slightly cluttered by the midpoint, particularly around the expanded rage abilities and companion skill management. The game never stops adding tools to your kit, which is generous but occasionally overwhelming. The writing is where Ragnarok earns its Metacritic 90. Odin is one of the more genuinely unsettling antagonists in recent action game memory, and the supporting cast, Freya, Mimir, Brok, Sindri, gets real emotional weight and screen time that pays off in ways the marketing does not hint at. There is one extended section where Atreus becomes the sole playable character that the community is fairly divided on. The gameplay during that stretch is noticeably flatter than anything Kratos gets to do, though it does build toward one of the standout boss fights in the entire franchise. Call it a filler arc with a spectacular exit ramp. The PC port, handled by Jetpack Interactive, is a confident piece of work. Ultrawide support, multiple upscaling options including DLSS and FSR, an unlocked framerate, and full DualSense support with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers make this a strong technical package. Running with a DualSense on PC is the recommended way to play: the adaptive triggers give the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos genuinely distinct physical feedback that deepens immersion in a way that sounds gimmicky until you try it. Mouse and keyboard is functional, though the game clearly thinks in controller inputs. One caveat worth noting: at launch, Sony required a PlayStation Network account to play, which drew real frustration from PC players and contributed to early review score depression. The current Very Positive Steam rating reflects the game's actual quality once that noise settled. For RPG fans and narrative-first players, the Nine Realms are individually distinct in tone, visual design, and enemy composition. The puzzle design is clever and scales in complexity without ever becoming annoying. If you missed this on PlayStation, the PC version is the best way to experience it. If you already finished it on PS5, the fidelity gains are real but probably not compelling enough to replay from scratch unless you want a higher framerate replay of a story you already love. Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
