Funko Fusion - Wicked Movie Pack 2

My first instinct when loading up Funko Fusion was cautious optimism. Seven licensed worlds, including Hot Fuzz, The Thing, Jurassic World, Battlestar Galactica, The Umbrella Academy, Masters of the Universe, and Scott Pilgrim, each rendered in that unmistakable blocky vinyl aesthetic. The character models genuinely look like toys come to life, and for a brief moment the whole thing feels like it could scratch that LEGO Dimensions itch nobody has been able to fill. Then you actually start playing. A typical level drops you into a mostly open-ended area where the objective is to walk around, shoot waves of enemy Funko Pops with guns and laser pistols, and solve simple environmental puzzles, usually involving finding a valve or a fuse to power something. That loop repeats, world after world, with very little variation. Combat feels floaty and low-impact throughout, characters share similar move sets despite coming from wildly different franchises, and the game is balanced as if four online players are always present, even though the online co-op was not available at launch and local co-op does not exist at all. Playing solo means enemies swarm at a rate that feels tuned for a full squad, and the boss fights compound the frustration with repetitive ground-pound patterns and damage phases that drag on long enough to make you question whether a softlock has triggered. The identity problem runs deeper than the combat. The franchise lineup skews toward properties that adults in their 30s will recognize and kids almost certainly will not, yet the actual difficulty and puzzle complexity are aimed squarely at younger players. There is almost no tutorial, mission objectives are frequently vague, and the game does a poor job of separating genuine confusion from outright bugs. Post-launch patches did address some of the worst balance issues and eventually opened up character use across any level, which is a meaningful improvement. Even so, the core structure, repetitive objectives, excessive backtracking to unlock secrets, and unreliable level scripting, remains intact underneath the fixes. Who is this actually for, then? Diehard collectors who want to see their favorite obscure vinyl figures rendered in a 3D world will find small pockets of genuine charm here. The visual execution on the franchise environments is solid, and there is a volume of content if you can tolerate the repetition. Everyone else, including families hoping for a co-op romp and adult action fans expecting anything close to a polished third-person game, will hit a wall fast. The concept had real potential. The execution, even in its patched state, is a cautionary tale about shipping before the design is ready.
