A craggy, storm-battered island expansion for Forza Horizon 4 that swaps England's green countryside for switchback mountain roads, lightning squalls, and a ten-chest treasure hunt.

Fortune Island is the first major expansion for Forza Horizon 4, dropping you onto a fictional high-latitude island sitting north of the base game's British map. The mood shifts immediately: instead of rolling countryside and market towns, you get jagged cliffs, crumbling pirate ruins, and skies that strobe with aurora borealis and branching lightning. It's a striking change of scenery even if the general vibe remains unmistakably Playground Games. The headline road is the Needle Climb, a long sealed switchback that winds all the way up the island's tallest peak and doubles as one continuous Drift Zone. Throw a rear-wheel-drive car at it and it sings, especially with FH4's already drift-happy handling model. Beyond the asphalt, a good chunk of the island skews off-road: dirt racing, Cross Country circuits, and the new Trailblazer PR Stunt, which gives you a start and an end point and zero instructions on how to get between them. On a map this vertical, Trailblazers create some genuinely chaotic jumps and sightlines. The Drift Club 2.0 Horizon Story also ties neatly into the island's mix of paved and unpaved surfaces, and it doubles as a soft on-ramp for players still getting comfortable with drift scoring. The big hook is the Treasure Hunt system, which replaces the base game's Barn Finds. Progress through the Island Conqueror ladder by racing and completing PR stunts, and you unlock cryptic riddles that point you toward ten hidden chests, each containing one million credits and, sometimes, a bonus car. Riddles require specific vehicles to solve, ranging from a 1965 Ford Mustang GT to a 2016 Audi R8, a 1945 Willys MB Jeep, or a 1986 Lamborghini LM002, which gives you an excuse to cycle through a garage you might otherwise ignore. The final chest requires jumping a lake in a supercar to reach a tiny island, which is exactly the kind of gleefully absurd moment FH4 does best. Ten new cars arrive with the DLC overall, including the 2019 Lamborghini Urus, the 2017 Ram Rebel TRX Concept, and the 2018 BMW M5. Multiplayer carries over from the main game: Forzathon Live events pop up hourly and online races can be joined on a whim, so four friends messing around on the island is still a smooth experience. Fair warning going in: this is more Forza Horizon 4, not a reinvention of it. The new weather effects, including aurora and lightning storms, look incredible but carry no mechanical weight on handling or visibility. The island is also siloed behind a load screen rather than physically connected to the main map, which is a persistent annoyance. Critics broadly noted it sits a tier below the wilder creativity of Forza Horizon 3's Hot Wheels expansion, leaning instead toward a driving purist's fantasy, tighter, moodier, and more technically demanding. If off-road variety and a loot-hunt structure keep your session-to-session motivation alive, Fortune Island delivers. If you were hoping for something as left-field as loop-the-loops and giant plastic ramps, you will leave a little flat. One important note: as of late 2024, Forza Horizon 4 and its DLC were delisted from digital storefronts following the game's end-of-life status, so keys from third-party sellers represent one of the few remaining routes to access this content. Best for FH4 fans who want more miles of demanding road and a clever treasure hunt, not a genre shake-up.
