Fields of Mistria
97% positive across 30,000+ reviews and two years of early access polish behind it - Fields of Mistria hits 1.0 as the most serious challenger to Stardew Valley's throne since Stardew Valley itself.
GamerScout Verdict
Best for players who want Stardew Valley's warmth plus a genuine story backbone - and don't mind that the combat is an afterthought.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

About Fields of Mistria
I went in expecting another cozy-game also-ran and came out the other side having lost a week to a dragon pact I did not see coming. Fields of Mistria is a farming and life sim RPG built around the earthquake-damaged town of Mistria, a place you move to, restore, and gradually fall in love with - and it earns that emotional investment through genuine craft rather than genre nostalgia alone. The structural loop will feel familiar: farm, fish, mine, craft, gift, sleep, repeat. What NPC Studio does differently is make almost every one of those verbs feel interconnected and forgiving. Smithing, carpentry, and cooking are all viable money-makers alongside farming, so you are never funnelled into a single daily routine. The mines expand into dungeon content as you progress, and the overarching story ties your magical abilities directly to Caldarus - a thousand-year-old dragon you accidentally bind yourself to after restoring a statue. That narrative hook is not decoration. It roots the RPG progression systems in the world's lore in a way that makes levelling up feel like story beats rather than spreadsheet checkboxes. Eiland the archaeologist feeds you drip-fed history about the ancient coexistence of humans and dragons, and if you are the kind of player who reads every piece of in-game text, Mistria rewards you handsomely for it. The 1.0 release completed what early access left deliberately open: the main story can now be finished, romance progresses to ten hearts, marriage and children are in, the museum has proper progression, and new mine floors and dungeon content add meaningful late-game depth. The cast of 12 romanceable characters - including Seridia the Dragon Priestess, the prickly blacksmith March, sorceress Juniper, and yes, Caldarus himself - each carry distinct arcs and enough unique dialogue to make relationship-building feel like actual character work rather than gift-delivery optimization. All romance options are fully queer-inclusive regardless of your player identity, which the community has responded to warmly. Where the writing does fall slightly short is in the lighter side-content: not every errand quest earns its place, and players who hunger for BG3-tier moral complexity in their NPC drama will find Mistria's tone firmly on the warm and wholesome end of the dial. That is a deliberate choice, not a failure, but know what you are signing up for. The main criticism worth flagging from the community is that combat, while present and tied to dungeon exploration, is more functional than deep. It serves the progression loop without ever threatening to become the main attraction. If you arrive expecting Rune Factory-level action RPG combat, recalibrate. The pixel art is genuinely stunning, the soundtrack composed with contributions from Toby Fox carries real emotional weight, and the quality-of-life decisions - like being able to craft at the forge without hauling every material in your inventory - show a developer that actually plays games like this. Minor post-1.0 performance hiccups and a museum that some reviewers found slightly underwhelming are the roughest edges remaining.
