About Fantasy Heroes 2
I went in expecting a throwback JRPG and got something closer to a visual novel with turn-based fights. Fantasy Heroes 2 keeps things lean: two protagonists, a ticking-clock virus narrative, minimal party customization. The writing doesn't pretend to be Disco Elysium, but it moves briskly enough that you're not grinding through padding to reach the next story beat. Combat is functional rather than tactical, which means you're mostly here for the mystery of who unleashed the plague and whether Valentin and Anais actually develop chemistry beyond "two people running together." What works is the no-filler approach. Sidequests feel purposeful, areas don't overstay their welcome, and the 10-15 hour runtime respects your time. What doesn't is the consequence of that brevity: character arcs land softly instead of hard, and the build variety amounts to "pick these skills or those skills." It's a comfort-food RPG for people who want story progression over mechanical depth, not a hidden gem waiting for discovery.
