A tabletop-faithful CRPG where your skill points genuinely change conversations, buried under 2011-era German budget production values.

The dialogue system here is the real draw: your character sheet talks back. Put points into Streetwise or Human Nature and whole conversation branches open that a combat-focused build never sees, and the game doesn't flag them with a glowing icon either. That's The Dark Eye ruleset doing its job, and it makes River of Time more interesting to replay than its sluggish reputation suggests. Combat is real-time with pause, party-based, and genuinely tactical once you stop treating it as an action game and start using terrain and stuns properly. What drags is everything around that core. The presentation was dated on arrival, the voice acting swings between fine and community-theatre, and the riverboat framing means a lot of fetch-and-return errands between the good bits. As a prequel it's also strangely low-stakes if you came for dragons. Still, the party banter is warm, the build math holds up past hour 30, and the skill checks reward players who actually read their sheet. Monika, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
