A medieval chapter for Dead by Daylight that adds The Knight and his AI-controlled guards, plus a generator-focused new Survivor. Interesting mechanics, but expect a learning curve before the strategy clicks.

Forged in Fog is Chapter 26 of Dead by Daylight, and it takes the asymmetrical 4v1 horror formula in a decidedly medieval direction. You get a new Killer, The Knight, a new Survivor in Vittorio Toscano, and the Shattered Square map dropped into the Decimated Borgo realm. The map is free for all players whether you buy the DLC or not, so what you are really paying for here is access to two characters and their six combined perks. The Knight is the headliner, and he is genuinely one of the more mechanically interesting Killers in the roster. His power, Guardia Compagnia, lets him draw a Patrol Path on the map and dispatch one of three AI guards to follow it. The Carnifex breaks objects faster and chases for longer, The Assassin sprints hard and inflicts Deep Wound on any Survivor it catches, and The Jailer covers the widest patrol range and detects Survivors from further away. Guards cycle in a fixed order, which means learning when to deploy each one is a whole skill unto itself. The core loop turns into territory control: you lock down a generator with a guard, then cut off the survivor who panics and bolts. It feels closer to commanding a squad than playing a traditional Killer, and when it works, it is satisfying in a way few DbD Killers can match. His unique perks, Nowhere to Hide, Hex: Face the Darkness, and Hubris, all layer nicely onto that aggressive map-pressure style. The catch is the learning curve. The Knight is rated Moderate difficulty, and that feels about right. New players who have not figured out guard timing will find themselves outpaced while the guards wander uselessly. On the Survivor side, Vittorio Toscano is a generator specialist whose three perks all orbit around gen repair. Potential Energy lets you bank up to 20 tokens of repair progress and transfer them to a different generator strategically. Fogwise reveals the Killer's aura on a Great Skill Check. Quick Gambit gives nearby teammates a repair speed boost while Vittorio is being chased. None of these perks are flashy, but Potential Energy in particular has become a genuinely useful tool in coordinated play, and Fogwise is a quiet favourite for players who want information without burning a perk slot on something niche. The lore connecting the two characters is actually one of the better origin stories in DbD. The Knight, Tarhos Kovacs, was once in the employ of Vittorio Toscano before turning on him. Both ended up in the Fog, and now they hunt each other for eternity. It adds texture that original DbD chapters sometimes lack. The medieval aesthetic was a bit of a talking point at launch, with some players feeling it sits awkwardly alongside the grittier horror chapters, but the Shattered Square map is atmospheric and well-constructed regardless. One note worth flagging for anyone shopping this on Xbox: the standalone Forged in Fog DLC was retired from sale in May 2024, with its content folded into the Endless Hunt Pack bundle alongside three other chapters. Purchasing individually still works through the in-game store, but if you are buying multiple chapters it is worth checking whether the bundle gives you better value. The Handsome Riding Jacket cosmetic for Vittorio remains exclusive to DLC purchase. Bottom line: if you want a Killer that rewards map awareness and tactical thinking over raw chase mechanics, The Knight has a high ceiling and a genuinely distinctive playstyle. Vittorio is a solid support Survivor pick for teams that coordinate. This is not a chapter for players who want to jump in and immediately feel powerful, but for those willing to put in the practice, the payoff is real. Riley, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
