About Cris Tales
I've put decent time into Cris Tales, and the core mechanic is genuinely clever: you see past, present, and future on one screen simultaneously, making choices that ripple across all three timelines. The art direction is stunning - hand-drawn character sprites over watercolor environments feel like playing inside an animated film. Turn-based combat is solid, though not deep enough to carry the game's middling pacing. Here's the problem: the novelty of the time-split screen wears off around hour 8, and you're left with fairly standard JRPG busywork. Dungeons are long and uneventful. Character arcs don't land with the weight they should. It's not bad, just hollow in places where it needed substance. If you're starved for indie turn-based RPGs with artistic ambition, it scratches that itch. Otherwise, it's a gorgeous, forgettable middle child.
