I went in expecting Disco Elysium meets XCOM. Instead, Classified: France '44 is a straightforward turn-based tactics game where you command Allied operators on sabotage missions through occupied France. The core loop works: position your squad, manage action points, trigger enemy patrols, adapt when plans crack. Destructible environments and multiple approach angles prevent the combat from feeling rote for the first 10-15 missions. What doesn't land is the human element. Your operators exist as class templates (Commando, Sniper, Sapper) with almost no arc or voice. Missions blob together without narrative connective tissue to make you care whether your team lives or dies. The writing never justifies why these specific people matter, which tanks the emotional weight a WWII tactics game should carry. Solid mechanical bones, hollow chest.
