A bundle of Helix Credits and cosmetic gear for AC Valhalla. Decent starter kit, but the real question is whether you need it at all.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a sprawling Norse-era action RPG where you play Eivor, a Viking raider building a settlement in ninth-century England. It is a big, messy, occasionally brilliant game buried under a lot of Ubisoft open-world padding. The Premium Starter Pack is a DLC bundle aimed at new players who want a leg-up when jumping in, and it comes with 2,300 Helix Credits (the game's premium currency) plus five pieces of cosmetic and weapon content: the Iron Wolf Ship Pack, the Kraken Heavy Shield, the Royal Sword, the Dokkalfar Bow, and the Tusk Axe. Let's be honest about what this is. The weapons and gear are cosmetic-adjacent rather than game-breaking power boosts. The Iron Wolf Ship Pack dresses up your longship. The Kraken Heavy Shield, Royal Sword, Dokkalfar Bow, and Tusk Axe give Eivor a fairly stylish load-out early on, but Valhalla's loot system means you will be replacing or upgrading gear constantly anyway. The 2,300 Helix Credits are the real value proposition here, since that currency unlocks items from the in-game store, though the store itself is the kind of thing that makes you raise an eyebrow at a full-priced game. Who is this for? Realistically, it targets players who want to start their Valhalla run looking good without grinding for cosmetics, or people who plan to spend Helix Credits on mounts, armor sets, or settlement cosmetics down the line. If you are the type who cares about your longship's paint job before you have even sacked your first monastery, this pack will scratch that itch. If you just want to axe your way through Mercia and finish the main story, you can safely skip it. From a purely RPG-mechanics standpoint, Valhalla has more going on than it gets credit for: a dual-wield system that lets you mix weapon types freely, a skill tree shaped like a constellation that rewards exploration, and a surprisingly deep settlement-building loop that ties into quest availability. The narrative has genuine high points, especially in certain region arcs and the mythological visions. It also has genuinely tedious low points in the form of collectible-hunting and filler pledges that outstay their welcome by about thirty hours. The base game has Mixed reviews partly because of those pacing issues, and this DLC pack does nothing to address or worsen them. Bottom line on the pack itself: the Helix Credits justify it if you were already planning to buy store currency. The gear is fine but not essential. This is not a content expansion, not a story add-on, and not a fix for anything that frustrated you about the base game. It is a starter kit, and like most starter kits, it is most useful to the players who least need to be told what to buy. Monika, Scout Team
