About Alterium Shift
The protagonist choice is the whole design pillar here: you commit to Sage, Rylee, or Nyx at the start, and party composition, scene framing and chunks of the script reorganize around whoever you picked. That single decision does more work than most branching-dialogue systems I've poked at this year, because it changes who is present for the emotional beats rather than just recoloring them. The turn-based combat underneath is classic retro JRPG grammar, readable pixel art, tight party-based encounters, skills that reward positioning over spam, and it holds up fine through the content that exists. The catch is that Early Access is doing visible work in that sentence. The story stops before the arcs it sets up can pay off, some stretches lean on encounter repetition to stretch runtime, and build depth has not been tested past the point where it would start to matter. If you want a finished 40-hour character piece, this is not that yet. If you want a lovingly made throwback with a genuinely clever replay structure and you are fine returning to it in a year, it earns the wishlist slot.
