About Achilles: Legends Untold
Achilles: Legends Untold is an isometric action-RPG from Dark Point Games that plants you squarely in the boots of the legendary Greek warrior during the Trojan War. Think Hades-adjacent camera angle, deliberate Souls-lite stamina-based combat, and a mythological setting that has enough genuine ambition behind it to make the rougher moments sting a little less. You dodge, parry, bash shields, and work through a fairly linear progression of enemies drawn from Greek legend. The combat loop asks you to read enemy animations and punish openings, which at its best feels satisfying and weighty. At its worst, it exposes some inconsistent hit detection and AI that occasionally forgets it is in a fight. The RPG systems sit at a light-to-moderate depth. You level Achilles through a skill tree that branches into different combat approaches, and gear drops let you tune your build toward heavier tankiness or faster aggression. That said, do not come in expecting the build variety of a deep ARPG. Past the early hours the options narrow, and the character-progression layer never quite delivers the complexity the genre label implies. If you spend forty hours here hoping the systems open up like a late-game PoE tree, you will be disappointed. If you want a moderately crunchy action game dressed in myth, the ceiling is lower but the ride is reasonable. The worldbuilding and narrative are where the gap between ambition and execution is most visible. The setting, the Trojan War filtered through a slightly reimagined mythological lens, has genuine potential. There are moments where the writing reaches for something interesting around Achilles as a character caught between fate and rage. But the story rarely delivers on those moments with enough payoff to reward close attention, and filler encounters pad the runtime in ways that erode the pacing. For someone who came here wanting a narrative as sharp as the hero's famous heel, that is the biggest letdown. Steam reviews sit at a mixed-but-positive majority, and that split honestly captures the game well. The combat is functional and sometimes fun. The setting is underused. The technical state at launch had issues that patches have addressed only partially. Dark Point Games is a small indie studio, and Achilles: Legends Untold carries both the heart and the limitations you might expect from that context. It is not a title that competes with the genre heavyweights, but if Greek mythology action with light RPG dressing sounds like your afternoon, there is enough here to justify the time, especially if you lower your narrative expectations and enjoy the brawling on its own terms.
