GamerScout Verdict
Worth a sale-bin pickup if you want old-school tactical RTS with unit depth, but expect 2010-era UI and AI.

About Theatre of War Collection
I spent enough time with Theatre of War Collection to know what it's trying to do: deliver squad-level tactical control over armor, infantry, mortars, and air support in a deliberate, hex-influenced command structure. That formula worked in 2010, and the unit variety is genuine - you're juggling line-of-sight, ammo counts, and positioning rather than just clicking to attack. The problem is age. The UI feels wooden by modern standards, pathfinding is clunky, and the AI doesn't punish sloppy tactics the way you'd hope. The level editor and LAN co-op modes give it some staying power if you've got a dedicated opponent, but the thin community means finding multiplayer is a waste of time. Metacritic's 66 reflects a game that knew what it wanted but executed it competently, not brilliantly.
